Reducing digital’s unintended impacts.
It’s not too late to reduce ecological and human harm of digital technology … yet.
Can we count on YOU?
– Robin S Sharma
The unintentional harm we seek to abate.
More CO2e than aviation.
The internet’s combined carbon footprint is greater than that of the aviation and shipping industries, and most nations.1
Water for 90 million people.
Data centres consume hundreds of billions of litres of potable water per year, enough to supply 90 million people2.
More gold than gold.
Technologies depend on vast amounts of rare minerals extracted from the Earth. Disposed equipment has created an enormous amount of ‘eWaste’, resulting in there being more gold per tonne of eWaste than in a tonne of gold ore3 along with serious human and nature health issues.4
Our objective.
Our objective is to overcome the awareness void, drive responsible technology use, and reduce technology’s harm to people, planet and nature.
Together we can raise awareness, provide information and tools to encourage responsible technology use.

The role of Digital Carbon Online in the movement.
Digital Carbon Online is a founding member, and is actively engaged in raising awareness and driving change. We share a mission with Digital Impact Aware for a more sustainable digital future, and hope our platform can provide information and insights to mitigate some of the harm caused by the internet.
The Digital Impact Aware movement is bigger than Digital Carbon Online and is open to anyone who is genuinely excited and optimistic about the role technology can play in a better future, but equally motivated to help avoid the harm it can cause.
